The American
Kestrel (Falco sparverious) is the smallest
falcon in North America and is sometimes
colloquially referred to as a Sparrow Hawk. It
is widely distributed across North America. The
female ranges in length from 9 to 11 inches with
a wingspan of 21 to 24 inches.
